Hebrew Learning App With a 60-Day Curriculum, Quizzes and Streaks for Aleph Talk

Aleph Talk wanted a Hebrew course that Malayalam, Hindi and Sinhala speakers could actually finish — not another app that teaches Hebrew through English. We built the product end to end: a 60-day curriculum with audio, nikud and transliteration, quizzes, XP and streaks, shipped to the App Store and Google Play alongside a Laravel site that carries the marketing, the SEO content and the store-compliance pages.

🎯 The Challenge

The people learning Modern Hebrew from India and Sri Lanka are rarely hobbyists. They are nurses and caregivers taking up work in Israel, students preparing for study or travel, and readers who want the Bible in its own script. Almost every Hebrew app they can download teaches through English — which puts a second language barrier in front of a script that already runs right to left and leaves its vowels off the page.

Aleph Talk's brief was to remove that barrier: teach in the learner's own language, in sessions short enough to fit between shifts on a phone, and structure it tightly enough that someone who has never seen an aleph reaches real sentences instead of quitting in week two.

Two constraints shaped the build. The learning had to work offline-tolerant on mid-range Android handsets, not just flagship iPhones. And it had to clear App Store and Play Store review — which for an education app that takes sign-ups means a complete policy surface and a self-serve account-deletion route, not a landing page with a contact form.

💡 Our Solution

We built the whole product — curriculum structure, apps, backend and web presence:

  • A 60-day curriculum, not a word list: a sequenced course that starts at the 22-letter alphabet and ends at conversation, one roughly ten-minute lesson per day.
  • Every word shown four ways: Hebrew script with nikud (vowel marks), phonetic transliteration, a translation in Malayalam, Hindi or Sinhala, and an audio pronunciation guide — so a beginner is never guessing at how a letter sounds.
  • Retention built into the loop: a five-question multiple-choice quiz closes every lesson — 300 comprehension checkpoints across the course — feeding XP, levels, a daily streak and a weekly global leaderboard.
  • Three native languages: the entire interface and every translation localised for Malayalam, Hindi and Sinhala speakers rather than routed through English.
  • In-app support tools: a built-in translator and a community Q&A so learners can resolve a stuck lesson without leaving the app.
  • Free-to-premium funnel: 30 lessons free forever with quizzes, streaks and leaderboard access; Premium unlocks all 60 lessons, unlimited quiz attempts and offline access at ₹2,999/year behind a 7-day money-back guarantee.
  • Shipped to both stores: native apps for iOS 16+ and Android, published as com.edgesys.alephtalk — listing copy, screenshots, submission and review handling included.
  • Laravel backend and marketing site: alephtalk.com runs on the same Laravel stack we use for our own platforms, with eight topical Hebrew guides — the alphabet, greetings, numbers, common words and phrases, how to read Hebrew, modern versus biblical Hebrew — written to capture organic search demand instead of buying every install.
  • Store-compliance surface: privacy, terms, cookie, refund and shipping policies, a support page and a self-serve account-deletion page satisfying Google Play's data-deletion requirement.

📈 Results & Outcomes

Aleph Talk is live on the App Store, on Google Play and on the web — you can download it and check the work yourself:

  • Through review and published on both stores: iOS 16.0 or later on the App Store, and com.edgesys.alephtalk on Google Play
  • 60 lessons and 300 quiz questions in production, each one localised into three native languages
  • Apple's privacy label for the app reads "no data collected" — the trust position an education app aimed at first-time app users needs
  • A 1.7 MB iOS download, so installing costs nothing on a metered connection or a nearly-full handset
  • Nineteen indexed pages on alephtalk.com, eight of them Hebrew-learning guides, building an organic acquisition channel alongside the store listings
  • A working monetisation path: 30 free lessons into a ₹2,999/year premium tier with a 7-day refund guarantee
